Waking up Sunday morning to our traditional Sunday morning ritual of relaxing before the start of the day, sipping coffee, and watching CBS Sunday Morning changed this week. We experienced the first snow of the season in our part of southern Ontario while our northern presence was graced with the first snowfall about a week ago. Winter is here and the community mood changes to planning for the Holidays. One of the only times of the year that our atmosphere at work, at home, and in the community is mostly positive and encouraging.
The first snow of the season is crisp and white. It comes like a clean sweep, a sanitization of sorts. It is invigorating and focuses our mind on things anew and fosters the clearing of our minds and creates a fresh slate. The only sad part is that the settling in of winter will reduce our ability to escape to our cottage.
That’s why we can relate to Sunday Morning in the winter. There is a small segment towards the end of the show that allows us to escape the onset of winter, a moment of nature. It is a stress relieving snippet of scenery from our natural world. Whether it is a moose wandering in a Wisconsin wilderness valley, seabirds soaring off the Maritime shore, or flowers in a Florida forest, it is calming. It is a placebo for our minds. It suffices until the return of spring.
The second part of the show we really appreciate is the presentation of stories that have nothing to do with the negative news of the world and that are more concentrated on wholesome, variant and positive stories. A lot of what tabloids and news organizations feed us these days is negative followed by negative. I know negative news sells but what about the positive stories; taking the time to communicate to us the great things happening in this world and the caring and generous people behind them. That is what we like about Sunday Morning. The majority of the broadcast is dedicated to positive, feel good and heart warming stories that otherwise are not seen in mainstream media.
Staying positive is critical in our world today. There is too much anger and upset. We need to find our inner selves and always look on the good side of life. Spending Sunday mornings with a moment of nature channels this. It is an escape perhaps even though it is only an hour and a half. I wish more people in the world could take this lead. We accomplish more with a positive attitude. This is why it is one of the mainstays behind our message at Northern River Financial. Its all about #KeepingLifeCurrent.
